John focuses on examining the ways that writers contend with interactive and participatory audiences in Web 2.0 and social media. He studies the way writers successfully or unsuccessfully seek out and exert control in such spaces, as well as the way that online spaces encourage or discourage participation. He is also interested in the way that writing functions as capital in social media.
