Biographical Statement
I did my undergraduate work in English at Temple University, where I focused on African American lit and worked in the Writing Center. I took a couple of years off from school and worked for lawyers in Tampa, FL, where I stumbled into another one of my academic interests, professional writing.
My current research uses sociohistoric theory and qualitative case studies to explore the interfaces between what I am thinking of as official medical spaces (i.e. health literacy, doctor's office, medical records, medical advertisements, digital technologies) and unofficial medical spaces ( i.e. activist health rhetoric, personal writing, lived experience). I look at how these interfaces cross boundaries between the personal and the professional in society and culture.
