Presentation Title: "What Lies Outside These Virtual Walls: Considering the Impact of Larger Institutional Contexts on the Computer-Mediated Classroom."
Date: September 26, 1996
Abstract
Based largely upon the study of an introductory composition course which used PacerForum conferencing software asynchronously to extend the classroom and develop community, this presentation will examine the crucial role that institutional contexts (e.g., schools, teachers, computer industry) play in the success or failure of the computer-mediated classroom. In particular, it will consider how context can impact the architecture of this electronic space and the discourse which takes place within it.
