Abstract
Based on studies of groups working to change their communities, this talk explores what is required to support those engaged in the knowledge work of everyday life. This knowledge work is often supported by writing-if not writing itself-and so this talk also makes visible the role of writing in community change initiatives. However, these studies also call into question the proper role of rhetoric and make visible new understanding of rhetorical theory and practice.
