Name: Trish Roberts-Miller, University of Texas
Presentation Title: “Reason, Judgment, Certainty, and Other Things That Cause Train Wrecks in Public Deliberation"
Date: September 23, 2010
Professor Roberts-Miller will be talking about her recurrent fascination with various times that communities were (or are) persuaded to solve their political problems by scapegoating some group, and the complicated ways that texts that advocate (or legitimize) scapegoating appeal to and reject expertise and rationality. She will also talk a little about the implications for teaching writing.
